When the coffee giant synonymous with sweet cold or hot morning pick-me-ups was still a small coffee company in Seattle in 1971, it wanted a logo that would tell its story as a coffee server of Seattle’s piers and docks. According to Starbucks’ official website, they had to go over dozens of marine books and saw a two-tailed mermaid, the Siren.

Starbucks’ logo is recognizable from a distance because of its light print outline drawing the Siren, a unique characteristic that is memorable for most consumers. Starbucks said it carries the lore of the company and its pride in its humble beginnings.
